Most pets are just looking for good homes. But not all pets are alike which makes it hard
for most people to decide whether they would want to get a particular type of pet or another.
Hamsters, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits make the best first pets for children
or for adults who are not around most of the day. True enough, they are among the most common caged pets in most
countries around the world. Nonetheless, many conditions may crop up along with the decision to adopt any of these
wonderful pets.
For example, as first pets for children, these small guys must be handled and cared for under
the supervision of an adult. Some species of hamsters in particular easily get annoyed by careless
handling. In such occasions, they may nip or run away. Also, while these pets in general do not require high
maintenance, they should still be sanitized once in a while and their cages must be cleaned regularly.
These pets are great for beginner pets due to their relatively low need for attention, expenses
and maintenance. But this does not mean that you can leave them on their own in their cages.
If you have attention to spare, a ferret may be a good choice for you. However,
it will really require your close attention or it will try to entertain itself and satisfy it's curiosity by
all means possible. A ferret that is not closely guarded will turn up everything around your
place. The good side of getting a ferret though is that it is fun to have and it will keep you occupied.
Exotic animals are cool pets to have. If you own one, chances are there are not
many of you who have the same breed or the same species. But in exchange with it's cool factor, exotic animals are
rather costly to maintain. This is because they have a different and specialized diet that is not normally
available on pet food counters as well as medical treatments and supplies that are not readily offered in common
pet shops and veterinary clinics. For the more experienced pet owners, exotic pets are recommendable. But for the
greenhorns, it is best to consider other less demanding pets.
Dogs and cats in all their varieties are undoubtedly the typical choices for
pets. The majority of them do not require much in comparison with other pets and there are many resources available
to educate pet owners regarding the proper care of canines and felines.
